Everyone knows that there are 5k runs for runners who want to show off their physical stamina while showing support for a good cause. These races are hosted world wide and many of them are well publicized. What you may not realize is that you can do the same thing with swimming. Although not talked about as often, there are a lot of swimming for charity events that you can take part in if you want to. This is great news for people who would rather swim than run.
Swim-A-Thons
These events allow people of all ages to participate and earn what they are able to earn for their favorite charity. Typically, the challenge is to swim as many laps as you are able to swim in an hour. From there, you earn a percentage of the donations that went toward you for your favorite charity. The more laps you make, the more money your charity or organization will receive. These charities allow you to raise money for cancer research, MS, and many others. You simply have to put in the effort to gain supporters for yourself and then challenge yourself to do the best that you can do.
Online Challenges
With online swim challenges you can set up a time, date, and distance for yourself. It can be something you do as an individual or as a team. These events allow you to raise money for a charity of your choice and you can turn it into a competition to see who can raise the most money. Some of these type websites allow you to create a blog where you share your swimming goals and why you have chosen to swim to gain support for the charity that you have chosen. For instance, if you have a loved one who was diagnosed with a terminal illness, you could attempt to raise money for that charity and share your story with the world while you do it.
